Quick Tips From a Red Lodge Ski Guru

Quick Tips From a Red Lodge Ski Guru

Skiing and Red Lodge are like peas and carrots, they just go together! Red Lodge Mountain is a short 15-minute drive from town and you can hit the bunny slopes, smooth groomers, rugged double black diamonds, and everything in between. Lift lines are short, powder days are especially fun, and when you get cold, the lodge has the BEST chili-cheese fries to snack on. There are also fun cross country skiing options in Red Lodge ranging from groomed trails at the Nordic Center to skiing some of the regular summer hiking trails. Local tip: Silver Run Trail has great cross-country skiing in the winter and so does the Lakefork Trail. A simple Google search for Red Lodge Mountain, Cross Country Skiing in Red Lodge Montana, or Ski Rentals in Red Lodge will point you in the right direction for more information.

Safe Driving In The Winter

Safe Driving In The Winter

Winter driving is tough. Locals and visitors struggle sometimes and icy roads can get the best of us. We are sharing a few tips and tricks we have learned through the years to drive safe and be prepared. Drive slower than you think you need to. Accelerate and decelerate slowly and smoothly. If you feel yourself spinning or sliding, be gentle and do not overcorrect. 4-wheel drive is your friend. Have a snow shovel, blanket, coat, mittens, boots, and cat litter in your vehicle at all times. Cat litter works wonders if you slide off the road and get stuck. First, dig yourself out the best you can and then sprinkle a healthy amount of cat litter in front and back of your tires. It will help you gain traction to drive back onto the road. If you see someone in need on the side of the road, stop and help. Wait out a storm and drive to your destination later, even if it is a bummer to do so. We are all on the road driving from point A to point B and it helps when we all drive a little more careful in the winter months!

Expedition Yellowstone

Expedition Yellowstone

Expedition Yellowstone, a program for 4-8th graders through the National Park Service, was a very special way to experience Yellowstone. Each day, we hiked through the park in clans of four students, one chaperone, and two park rangers. What an amazingly intimate way to learn about the rich history and incredible natural wonders of this National Park! We visited Gardiner, Mammoth Hot Springs, and the beautiful Lamar Valley. We even got to stay at the Buffalo Ranch! Even as a Montana native who has visited Yellowstone National Park numerous times, the incredible natural wonders, wildlife and overall adventures it offers never ceases to amaze me. Arterial Drive Visits Red Lodge

Arterial Drive Visits Red Lodge

Hello from Arterial Drive! We are a 5 piece band based out of Billings, MT and we had the pleasure of staying in the Mountain View Lodge after playing a birthday party gig in town. It was awesome! We relaxed in the private hot tub under the stars, cozied up for a living room jam session, and we all slept so well. Briane (the power behind Red Lodge Res) is also one of the coolest people you will meet! We hope you get the chance to say hello and talk to her about music, skiing, or all the fun things going on in Red Lodge. Thanks for taking such good care of us, Briane!

Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My! ;-)

Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My! ;-)

Whether you are wandering through the shops on Broadway or feeling that beautiful mountain-climbing-calf-burn while hiking in the Beartooths, you will notice a common theme in this town is the wildlife. Mountain lions, moose, and bears - oh my! There is a variety of big and small creatures that call these mountains home. If you are looking for a Red Lodge wildlife experience somewhere between the adorable grizzly bear cookie jar on Broadway and potentially seeing wildlife in the wilderness, visiting the Yellowstone Wildlife Sanctuary is perfect for you. Located on the north end of town, the Yellowstone Wildlife Sanctuary is home for non-releasable native wildlife. Through the safe environment of the sanctuary, you are guaranteed to see and learn about native wildlife.
